Jesus Freaks + Baby Killers

Finally saw Todd Solodnz's Pallindromes. Mina had a review a while back which I'll find once I can get blogspot domains to work again. My review? Eh. Citizen Ruth was better. Solondz is getting too navel-gazey. I think he peaked with "Happiness" and since then has spent too much time commenting on himself. Mark Wiener gives a transparent "this-is-the-author-speaking-through-a-charachter" speech at the end that should clear up some issues for those of who still don't get Solondz. In it he clearly states "I'm not a pedophile" which was not as comforting as I thought it'd be. Woody Allen in Sleeper claimed "I'd never force myself sexually on a blind woman". All I gotta say is watch Deconstructing Harry. Solondz (and Woody for that matter) needs to read a newspaper or get a job with co-workers for a while.

Lot's of beautiful photography though and some amazing Christian pop songs. The Judeo-Christian imagery was a little muddled but maybe I just need to reread my old Testament (jokes on God, I ain't got an old Testament, ha ha!). Why did Aviva turn into a pubescent boy for a while and then float down a river in a little boat/basket only to turn into a morbidly obese black woman and get adopted by a family of Chritian cultists? I. Do. Not. Know.

But the flick got me thinking about the Christian right and abortion and all. So here are some audio/video links on the theme of Jesus Freaks and Baby Killers.

Wow. And of course, if you watch to the end you'll see that like every good Jesus freak, she's a complete hypocrite too.

As for the baby-killing. Look no further than Mr. Tom "There's No Such Thing As A Chemical Imbalance" Cruise.

Hey,
Despite my own review, I think that you have a lot of valid shit to say. I really don't understand the obese black woman, either. For some reason, I would have really liked Natalie Merchant to have played a part in this movie. Can't explain it.

Oh, and I know this sounds bitchy, but it's not: it's "lots." Not Lots. Please do not become one of those people.

I meant "lot's." see? I even have an aversion to repeating it.
