what a gimmick. i hate bono. the oprah ep he was on goes down as one of my favorites for its display of pure narcissism.
The thing I hate about it is the aristocrat privilege that U2 have taken for themselves. No no-name indie rock band could get away with stealing all these clips and putting themselves up there with The Pantheon without coming across as total assholes. But U2 gets away with because they are U2, the House of Bono, Saviors of Humanity and Rock. And, I'm sorry, the tokenist clips of Kanye, Wu-Tang?, and Public Enemy were not appreciated. The thing is, it's a pretty good song and a nicely edited video, it's just the schmearing of ego on top (masquerading as homage) that just pisses me every few seconds as a nice sequence of visuals and a good pop rock song go by.
