I'm watching the Nightline about the evacuations in Texas. Houston's airport. Friggin' ridiculous. Our transportation system seems totally inadequate when it really matters. And this is with days if not weeks of warning. Imagine if there was an unexpected terrorist attack or sudden earthquake or a flu outbreak. This country just isn't ready to handle it. There's a blatantly obvious lack of planning and training and execution when it comes to these mass evacuations. Seems easy enough to me. As soon as an emergency mandatory evacuation is called, the National Guard takes over all the air ports and just starts first-come-first serve evacuation flights to predetermined shelter locations. I were running for office in the next few years I would run on a platform of making the country truly prepared to take care of all kinds of fucked up situations.
