My Mother's E-mails
Always willing to steal a good idea, I present what I think is a true classic of the form. I recently had a mishap with a Cuisinart that my mom had gotten me as a house warming present. I got it wet and fried the electronics and it seemed broken for good after only two days of use. I called my mom, distraught, and she was very understanding and got on the case looking for solutions. The next day, all dried out, the Cuisinart sprang to life and is now working perfectly. I called back and left a message letting her know that everything was okay.
Hi, Elliot, how's it going? I have been checking out the Cuisinart
situation. I haven't found much to be encouraged about with regard to repair
people. I would imagine it's tough to find an appliance repair person there
in the large city of Portland, who is reliable and so forth. Indeed, I have
a hard time finding someone I can count on here in what ought to be a hotbed
of such people. Actually, though, I do have a handle on a couple of
electricians who might be willing to help me. So, I propose the following. I
order you a new Cuisinart combo through Amazon.com--I've already checked it
out, and....OH, Doug just came home and said there had been a VERY funny
message from you that everything was all right and that you even played the
machine on both functions over the phone! Elliot, you are such a riot! Well,
actually, I guess that means you can ignore everything I said up til this
point, since it's "moot" now, right? I'm delighted that the unit dried
out--I forgot that sometimes if you just leave something alone for awhile
everything is okay when you go back to it. Kind of like when you have a bad
dream and you are so relieved to wake up and discover it didn't really
happen, right? He said that it was VERY loud on the chopper function--I have
found that, too, especially when doing such things as grating hard cheeses
like Parmesan. Nonetheless, it DOES work hard! You DO have to be sure it has
clicked shut, though!
Well, happy news, thank you, glad to hear it and VERY sorry I didn't hear
the message myself! Love, MOM

Mother's e-mails...the craze that is sweeping the nation.
Elliot, shouldn't you have to ask for some kind of permission before posting a person's e-mail on a blog? If I were your mother, and I may be, I might be either flattered or dismayed to find myself "posted"!
well, i know the previous poster can't be our mother, b/c she would know that you ALWAYS put punctuation inside the "quotation marks!"
