Always a bridesmaid
I'm watching Ellen and she's doing that thing where they pick a couple and give them a dream wedding to show off a lot of expensive product. Ellen seems so happy for the cute little heterosexuals and all the swag they're getting for free.

Ellen's demographic is 18-54 year old women. Within that, we're talking mostly unemmployed (mother) heterosexual women. Sadly, talking about gay rights does not tend to rate well (i.e. Rosie). This is a business, a sad, often morally questionable business. But I'm starting to see things a little differently. For instance, if you were visiting your conservative dying grandparent...it might not be appropriate to start yelling at them about their views on tax cuts for the rich. In a similar vein, day time TALK does not always work as a place for OVERTLY political banter. That said, there are probably creative ways to adress these issues that get people thinking without alienating them. Oprah is probably the best at this, but she too is still soft and avoids some serious shit. It's a difficult dance between the host, the producers, the studio executives, and ad sales (the bread and butter). Anyway...someone should find a way to circumvent the producers and the ad people.
Ok...I'll shut up now.
I guess I'm not really asking for Ellen to get all agit-proppy and Rosie-esque. It just seems to me kinda inappopriate and awkward to put this poor queer girl in the position of having to pay for and fawn over these breeders' marriage while the Senate is currently debating whether or not to ban Ellen and her ladyfriend from ever having the same privilege. Can't you just keep Ellen off the marriage beat? Was this her idea? If so, perhaps the cognitive dissonance and political irony I'm experiencing right now is really the point and the whole thing is really a piece of brilliant performance art on Ellen's part.
